Another edition of LPOD's apparent series on statues and the Moon. Here Ferdinando I de' Medici, Cardinal and Grand Duke of Tuscany either has a cigar, a thick finger, or rolled up parchment in his hand that points toward the Moon. The relation of the Moon to the Cardinal depends on which of these interpretations might be right. If its a cigar, is the bright thing below an ash falling to the ground? Or if a thick finger, is it a ring that slipped off a flicked hand? And if it is a rolled sheet of paper, as seems most likely, what is the Moon?
