When I saw John’s painting the bright swirls immediately reminded me of another astronomical painting, Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh. The blues are reminescent of van Gogh’s colors and the roundness of the craters, with their shimmering rims, is like his stars in the sky. And of course, the brightest object in Vincent’s painting is a crescent Moon. Here is what John says about his own painting:
BRUSH WITH APOLLO
This " Apennine Peaks" oil painting was produced from an image taken by one of the Apollo missions. While painting it reminded me so much of the memorable times I spent late into the cold night at the eyepiece, that different eye then many years ago still sees the beauty of our moon today.
