LPOD-Nov28-11.jpg

image by Stefano De Rosa,Turin, Italy

I took this image this evening, just after sunset, when the crescent Moon
(with a beautiful Earthshine) and the brilliant Venus put on a great show
over the Monviso. The mountain (3,841 m – 12,602 ft) is the highest peak
of the Coattian Alps and its pyramid-like shape is visible from large areas
of the northwestern regions of Italy. It is also famous for hosting the
source of the Po, the longest river in Italy.

In the image we could see the Crescent Moon in the Sagittarius
constellation, and below them, 3º above the horizon, the planet Venus.
The Moon shows a strong Earthshine effect, for being just 9% directly
iluminated by the Sun. The image was taken in Costa da Caparica
beach, facing the Atlantic Ocean.
