Terminator Lover

LPOD-Aug10-10.jpg

north to the left image by Jim Phillips

Jim Phillips loves the terminator, pulling out of near shadows low features that are often missed. Here he visits Capuanus, a flooded crater presumably filled with the same lavas as nearby Palus Epidemiarum. The longest shadow on the crater floor points to the best known dome inside Capuanus. This is a relatively flat-topped structure that may be round in outline but seems to have straightish sides. Touching it immediately above is a slightly smaller diameter rise that is very low but may also be a dome. Another low but possible dome falls between the longest shadow of the crater floor and the next one to the right. An even less certain rise may exist where the northern end of the shadow curves slightly. This looks like the shadow is wrapped around the very gentle dome. A low but opposite lighting Chuck Wood
