Here is an article from Sky & Telescope on dust particles above and around the moon. Since no one is sure how or why they exist, I speculate that they are left over from the putative collision between earth and a small planet the size of Mars that caused the formation of the Moon. The smoking gun of the Moon's formation. Ha! I wish. Take a look at it though it is an interesting article.

Just a passing comment; Eudoxus doesn't have a well developed ray system compared to Copernicus. Wouldn't that make it Eratosthenian also? On the boundary between the Eratosthenian and Copernican, as Dr. Wood points out, would seem likely.
