Moon on Fire

MoonInFire_ChrisKotsiopoulos.jpg
image byChris Kotsiopoulos, Athens, Greece

An unfortunate event here in Athens Greece, a big fire in a nearby forest turned the Moon deep red! The image colors are 100% real.

And I saw, when he had opened the sixth seal:
and behold there was a great earthquake.
And the sun became black as sackcloth of hair:
and the whole moon became as blood.
(Bible - Apocalypse 6:12)

In many religions and beliefs throughout the course of human history, unusual phenomena like comets as well as solar and lunar eclipses, are regarded as bad omens. Today, science provides an answer to nearly every natural phenomenon we observe. Tonight the Moon in Athens is red for a simple reason. One of the most beautiful forests nearby Athens is consumed by the fire. The flames reflect in the thin clouds giving them a bright red color. As a result the Moon appears in this unusual color. If this image becomes LPOD it will be my first and I would like to dedicate it to my wife Tery, because she always believed in me.
